There is heated debate as to whether the United States of America is a “Christian” nation. Opinions about what that means and whether it’s a good thing vary widely. I won’t wade into it now. But there is one Christian virtue without which America cannot last: love.
On Memorial Day we remember the sacrifice of people who died for this nation. They not only died for the ideals that make America great, but for the very people in it. Even the ones who disagree with them, despised them, or forgot about them. The fact is, none of us would be where we are today if not for the cumulative sacrifice those who died for the American ideals that shape our existence.
That’s love.
